A gold mosaic tabernacle niche and marble setting for Saint Columban in Garden Grove

In 2017, Lanzini & Sons designed, fabricated and installed a tabernacle niche finished with gold mosaic for Saint Columban Catholic Church in Garden Grove, California. The commission created a new setting for the parish’s tabernacle within the existing reredos.

We cut an opening in the reredos and installed a custom marble platform within it. The platform had a floating appearance, providing a place for the tabernacle while the surrounding woodwork framed the new niche.

The mosaic lining and light

We fabricated the arched niche as a separate component, finishing its curved interior and surround with gold mosaic in the workshop before installation. The completed niche was then fitted into the opening above the marble platform.

LED lighting inside the niche allowed the warmth and tone of the scene around the tabernacle to be adjusted.

Our Divine Mercy mosaic for Saint Columban was a separate 2018 job.
