Catholic Church Interior Design and Renovation

We renovate existing church interiors, from a fresh coat of paint to coordinated work on artwork, furnishings and finishes. Projects can include minor changes to the existing interior. Our current scope covers existing buildings; new church buildings and building additions are outside that scope.

A refresh or a wider renovation

A parish may need repainting, repair of aging finishes or one new artwork. A broader project may connect flooring, sanctuary furnishings, windows and decorative painting. We start with what the parish wants to change, the work that should remain and the condition of the existing space.

Electrical coordination can form part of an overall project when needed. Access, protection and the use of the church during work also need to be planned for the particular site.

Work in existing churches

At Immaculate Conception in Sacramento, the interior renovation included custom Divine Mercy glass, relocation of an existing round window, painting and gold accents, tile flooring and changes to sanctuary furnishings. Tile, including wood-look tile beneath the pews, formed the main floor finish.

At All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Long Beach, work included new flooring, reinforcement of the existing altar platform, custom-cut marble, brass communion rails and repainting.

Keep existing art in the plan

An older mural, statue or furnishing may be retained, repaired, restored or relocated. Those choices depend on its condition, meaning and the parish’s goals. Catholic liturgical design considers how the altar, ambo, font, tabernacle and sacred art relate within the room.

For a focused artwork, see the pages for statues, painting, mosaics or stained glass.

Start with the room

Send wide photographs of the sanctuary and nave, a short account of the desired changes and any known condition concerns. Plans or dimensions help when available. Mention worship schedules and who will take part in decisions. Discuss an interior project or read the renovation planning guide.
