We design and create custom statues for churches and institutions, welcome private commissions, and restore existing statuary. A new commission can begin with an idea for the figure and its setting; a finished design is not required.

Commissioning a new statue

The subject, pose, expression and scale should suit the place where the statue will stand. Photographs of a niche, chapel, garden or other setting help us discuss proportions and material. For a church commission, the church should support pursuing the project before the inquiry begins.

We work with bronze, marble, other stone, wood, plaster and concrete. Resin is considered for some projects. Material and size are discussed for each commission.

At Holy Spirit Church in San Jose, we designed a new bronze Mary sculpture and installed it in its setting. Tell us about a statue you would like to commission.

Restoring existing statuary

Restoration begins with the material, existing finish and damage. Missing parts, previous repairs and outdoor exposure can each affect the work. At Our Lady of Mercy in Redding, a hammer-damaged marble Pietà needed carved replacement noses, repairs and cleaning. At Saint Vincent in San Rafael, work across ten campus statues included repairs to marble and concrete.

The exterior sculpture restoration at St. Moses the Black in Detroit included carved replacement hands and a crown. These are examples of particular repairs; the approach for another statue depends on its condition.

Stations of the Cross

A Stations series needs to be considered as a whole, with attention to each scene’s condition, finish and placement. At Corpus Christi in Tahoe City, we repaired and repainted a complete plaster series in colored, wood-like finishes and reinstalled it. The Stations remained plaster.

What to send

For a new statue, send the idea, intended location and approximate dimensions if known. For existing work, include full views, details of damage, the base or supports and any known history. For Stations, photograph the complete sequence as well as individual concerns.

Start a statue inquiry, read the statue-restoration planning guide or explore bronze, gilding and material work.
